Spaced Repetition

Do you remember how easy it is to forget the things you don’t like or the things that seem boring to you. Well, that’s how the brain was made by the Creator to help us not overload it or run out of space. The brain easily remembers the things or events that have emotions attached to them. On the other hand, things that are emotionless are taken to be unimportant. The main reason behind why people practice spaced repetition is because it helps our brains to recognize the emotionless events as important.

God knew that you won’t need to remember everything, so he gave our brains the auto delete option. If you study something for 20 minutes right now; in about 3 hours you will forget about 10% of what you studied. In a week you will forget about 70% of what you studied. The only way you will be able to remember more than 30% is if you study the same thing more than twice.
Yes, there are some exceptions. The genii from all over the world. These constitute less 5% of the total world population and the other 95% constitute of the average and metal retardant. Both you and I are probably part of the 95% but it’s okay. We have to work hard to get the results and that’s a good thing. I mean achieving something after hard work makes us feel good about ourselves.

How spaced repetition works
1. Study something for 25 minutes. After the 25 minutes are done, get up and walk around or talk to people or watch TV; basically, just do something that’s not related to the topic you’re from studying.
2. After about 15 minutes, come back and study the same thing. Again, take a break.
3. After about an hour, come back and study the same things and take a break.
4. Come back and study the same things after 24 hours.
5. Finally, study the material after about 2 or 3 days.
This process will help you remember something from a book or video for about 2 to 4 months.
Remembering something for years will require a different process. I will explain it in a future smartify.
Thank you.
