The human brain is one of the most complex things that have ever existed. It can remember things as well as imagine what has not happened. Because this complexity of the brain, I have decided to dedicate this whole smartify to explaining about the brain.
To start with the brain has 86 billion neurons and 100 billion synapses. A neuron is a nerve cell which transmits electrical impulses while a synapse is a gap between two neurons.
Since neurons conduct electrical impulses we can literally say that the brain is made of electricity. You remember that I said that a synapse is a space between two neurons? Then how do electrical impulses move from one neuron to the other considering the fact that electricity is incapable of traveling in air or space?
When an electrical impulse is travelling in a neuron, a fluid called neuro-transmitter is released at the synapse. This neurotransmitter allows the electric impulses to travel from one neuron to the next.
The brain can imagine things that have never happened thanks to the cerebrum which is the center of intelligence and memory.
The brain is so complex that apart from thinking and memorizing, it coordinates voluntary and involuntary actions.
Parts like the hypothalamus is used for homeostasis and the pituitary gland produces stimulating hormones. The brain’s cerebellum controls posture and movement and the medulla oblongata controls involuntary actions such as breathing rate and heart rate.
The most astonishing fact about the brain is that it has no receptors and as such it does not feel pain.
As seen the brain is a very significant part of a human and without it we would not be as civilized or developed as we are now.
