It is very important to see what kinds of people you surround yourself with. It is just common sense, you can’t hang out with fools and expect to be wise, honestly speaking if you do that, you will just be a fool who is wiser than the other fools.

As Dan Penna puts it, “Show me your friends and I’ll show you your future.” It really is that simple. Do not misunderstand me here, you can acquaintances and colleagues that you don’t find appealing because you don’t spend a lot of time with them. However, for your friends make sure you make friends that bring out a positive impact in your life.

First start by figuring out who you want to be and where you want to go. As Matthew McConaughey puts it, “It is difficult to know who you are just by knowing, use the process of elimination to first know who you are not then remain with who are.”

Forget about the past for it is gone. From this moment, just think of who want to be. List out who you are not like below:

- I am not a thief

- I am not a cheater

- I am not lazy

- I am not a procrastinator etc.

Then now that you have found out who you don't want to be, take time to think of things that are not on your don't-want-to-be list and list them like below:

- I am disciplined

- I am focused

- I am productive

- I am a great student

- I am great son/daughter etc.

Now get the list of who you want to be and stick it on the wall. This list will be a list of your daily affirmations. Read them every single day in the morning and evening and soon you’ll find yourself becoming that person with these characters. And now if your friends are thieves, they will go against what you stand for and you will naturally find yourself distancing yourself from them.

That’s it for day 19, see you on day 20.
